 Espíritu Santo Island is a protected area and was declared part of a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1995. This beautiful island is located in the sea of ​​Cortez a few miles off the coast of La Paz, in the state of Baja California Sur, which is two hours north of Cabo. It is separated from Partida Island by a narrow channel. The island and the surrounding crystal-clear waters are home to sea lions, turtles, manta rays, dolphins, sharks, birds and even whales. The island has many different beaches where you can take walks, go for a swim or just enjoy the gorgeous scenery that only the Sea of ​​Cortez can offer.

Pick up at your resort at 7:00 am in San Jose, 7:40 am Cabo San Lucas. We drive thru the Pacific ocean on the main high way for about an hour after we arriving to a typical Sud California Ranch (La Garita) to use bathrooms, stretch legs and if you like a eat homemade burrito or quesadilla with a freshly made cup of coffee (not included). After 20 minutes we head to the City of La Paz to go into the boat where you’ll be going around the Island, snorkeling and having lunch on the Island for about 5 to 6 hours approximately. Then we go on the van heading back to Cabo arriving at your hotel for drop off after a beautiful day.

Of the nearly 1,000 islands scattered all the Sea of Cortez, Isla Espiritu Santo (Holy Spirit Island) is by far the jewel of them all. It is only 31 square miles in area, with twelve protected bays. Yet it’s home to numerous endemic flora and fauna. You’ll find out why the black jackrabbit and wild fig are unique and important. UNESCO designated Espiritu Santo and some 200 other islands a Biosphere and World Heritage Site for its biodiversity and stunning natural scenery. Surrounded by the turquoise blue of the Sea of Cortez, this protected area is home to coral reefs, colonies of sea lions, dolphins, whales and over 800 species of fish. The waters actually are home to 39% of the world’s fish species.

Your experienced guide will lead you on an adventure of a lifetime. You’ll watch  sea lions swimming and playing in their colony at Los. You can join the 300 resident sea lions as they swim, play and dart around.

We will swim and snorkel in one of the several options, we provide all the gear and instruction. Don’t forget your waterproof camera!

On a nature hike, your guide will relate the inspiring story of how the island became a protected reserve. It was actually privately owned until a coalition of leaders persuaded the government to purchase it in 2003. It was the first such conservation purchase for the Mexican government. Take in some of the sights: 2,000-foot-high mountains, sheer rock dropping off into the water, and white sandy beaches dotting the coast. See why Espiritu Santo is one of Baja´s and La Paz´s most amazing attractions. You’ll never forget its riches and untouched beauty.
